Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, paid an official visit to the United Kingdom to usher in a new chapter in bilateral relations. Sheikh Mohamed was hosted by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson at 10 Downing Street in central London for a wide-ranging discussion and the announcement of a Future Partnership between the two countries. The meeting’s joint communique stated, “The Prime Minister congratulated the United Arab Emirates on its fifty anniversary of its founding in 1971.”

Sheikh Mohamed hoped for another half-century of close ties with the United Kingdom. “Promoting developing ties with other countries throughout the world, particularly with the United Kingdom, is one of the most essential components of our developmental programs for the next 50 years,” Sheikh Mohamed stated. The United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom have decided to form a “Partnership for the Future” based on two primary pillars: ensuring long-term prosperity and addressing global concerns. An annual strategic conversation will be co-chaired by the UAE’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the UK’s Foreign Secretary to assess and push progress and promote multilateralism.
