The UN Women says that the Emirates has passed and enacted new policies in accordance of supporting women and their rights.

UN Women, the UN agency dedicated to gender equality and women’s empowerment, has stated that the UAE’s recent actions have aided women in gaining more rights and better security. “The UAE has made big progress toward equality and leads the MENA region in women’s empowerment, especially given recent laws that gave women more rights and better security,” UN Women said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency on International Women’s Day, which is observed on March 8th around the world.

“UN Women is appreciative of its strong partnership with the UAE Government, the General Women’s Union, and H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak [Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation] and her remarkable vision for women’s advancement in all sectors,” Dr. Mouza Al Shehhi, UN Women’s Executive Director, said. “We commend this collaboration on International Women’s Day as we collectively work to advance the gender equality agenda,” the statement added. The UAE adopted 11 new laws and statutory amendments between 2019 and 2020.

The UAE enacted 11 new laws and legislative changes between 2019 and 2020 to improve women’s resources and protect their overall empowerment.
