From April, the United Arab Emirates will begin developing the Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine, assisting the Gulf state in speeding up plans to supply coronavirus vaccines around the world. Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries, also known as Julphar, revealed on Sunday that it had signed a contract with G42 in Abu Dhabi to manufacture the vaccine, which was trialed in the UAE and has since been the driving force behind the country’s effective vaccination campaign. The United Arab Emirates, which began giving the vaccine to healthcare professionals in September, was the first country to approve Sinopharm for general use in December, claiming that it was 86% effective in preventing Covid-19.

The vaccine is by far the most commonly used in the UAE’s national program, which has resulted in the country providing 81 doses per 100 people, second only to Israel among the world’s most populated countries. BioNTech/Pfizer, Oxford/AstraZeneca, and the Russian Sputnik V vaccine are among the other vaccines in use. Experts, on the other hand, also criticized the secrecy surrounding Sinopharm’s launch, citing a lack of detailed descriptions of efficacy effects or peer-reviewed evidence as examples. The UAE began providing a third “booster” dose to those who did not produce enough antibodies after two doses of the vaccine earlier this month.
