The Emirates Celebrates Martyrs’ Day.
On 30 November, Martyrs’ Day is celebrated. It could even be referred to as ‘Commemoration Day.’ This holiday takes place just two days before the two-day UAE National Day holidays, but since the dates fall on a weekend, more holidays are likely to be declared. In 2018, on a Friday, Martyrs’ Day dropped.
The public holiday remained for National Day on a Friday, with Sunday and Monday becoming public holidays. On Thursday, 29 November, the formal commemorations of Martyrs’ Day with ceremonies organized by ministries and organisations throughout the world took place instead. President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed announced on 19 August 2015 that a national holiday called Martyrs’ Day will take place on 30 November each year to commemorate the sacrifice of those who died in the line of duty for the UAE.
The holiday commemorates the dignity and allegiance of its martyrs, in appreciation of the sacrifices they have rendered for their country, in remembrance of their sons who have sacrificed their lives to keep the UAE flag flying high, fulfilling their tasks and duties in the political, military and humanitarian fields, both at home and abroad.
The holiday will be characterized by national activities, in which all government institutions, Emiratis and citizens, will participate. The activities will celebrate the nation’s faith in the ideals of determination, commitment, patriotism, and belonging of those on the battlefields and in the line of service who have lost their lives.
