The Minister of the United Arab Emirates reiterated the scope of the bilateral ties between the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan, remembering the keenness of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the early stages of the establishment of the relationship. Following a visit to the UAE by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Foreign Minister of the Peaceful Islamic Republic of Pakistan, His Highness made this remark. Discussions between the Foreign Ministers of the two fraternal countries included ways of further strengthening and reinforcing joint collaboration in different regions, in accordance with the leadership directions of the two countries.

In order to meet the aspirations of the two friendly countries and communities, both sides addressed the threats and implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, the economic and investment problems of common concern, and opportunities for further joint cooperation. Both sides shared views on the recent developments in the area and presented mutually important regional and international concerns and means of organizing responses on issues of concern.

His Highness confirmed that the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries are profound and that he is keen to improve and establish more aspects of mutual cooperation in all sectors. His Highness reiterated the gratitude of the Pakistani community by the UAE for the protection and security of more than 1.5 million Pakistani diaspora in their second country, the UAE, and lauded their great role and successful contribution to the country’s development and prosperity. He acknowledged that this represents the interconnectivity between the populations of the two friendly nations, highlighting the temporary existence of the recent visa issuance limitations imposed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the establishment of the UAE in 1971, he referred to the long-standing strong ties between the two countries, as Pakistan was among the first countries to develop diplomatic relations with the UAE. Good historical relations are shared between the two friendly citizens and countries that strengthen the prospects of their strong cooperation in all fields. Over the past decades, strong links between the UAE and Pakistan have continued to be reinforced and transformed into multi-faceted cooperation, a rare case in the region’s Arab-Asian relations, as political ties between the UAE and Pakistan are focused on a long tradition of collective action, trust and reverence.

On matters of regional and international concern, the two countries’ common priorities and visions align across the values of openness, inclusiveness and a development-based strategy to ensure peace and security in the region. The UAE and Pakistan enjoy close relations and historical connections in the political, economic, cultural and social spheres, founded on deep pillars of mutual friendship and reverence.
