First Unconventional Gas in the Emirates!
The National Oil Company of Abu Dhabi, ADNOC, and TOTAL today announced the supply of the first UAE unconventional gas.
Unconventional gas from the Ruwais Diyab Unconventional Gas Concession, situated 200 kilometers west of the city of Abu Dhabi, was supplied. This accomplishment represents a significant milestone in potential full field production and is an important step towards the goal of ADNOC of generating 1 billion standard cubic feet, scfd, of gas from the concession before 2030, effectively helping the UAE to self-sufficiently produce gas.
The first Ruwais Diyab gas comes only two years after the first historic unconventional gas concession agreement was signed by ADNOC and TOTAL in the country. Moreover this initial output milestone marks the first time that unconventional gas exploration in the Middle East brings gas too early on in the project timeline to the pipeline.
The rapid progress was made possible by the deep engagement and cooperation between ADNOC and TOTAL, helping them to rapidly monitor the discovery of these natural gas resources while adjusting operations to the shale play form of the UAE.
