Biometrics Launched in the UAE!
The airline has unveiled an automated biometric route at Dubai International Airport (DXB) as part of Emirates’ contribution to continuous innovation and an unprecedented customer service. Emirates passengers flying from and via Dubai are now open to the contactless airport experience. The automated biometric route would provide travelers with a smooth journey from specific check-in to boarding gates, improving airport customer flow with less paperwork checks and less queuing. Emirates passengers can now check in for their flight, complete visa formalities, enter the Emirates Lounge, and board their planes, simply by strolling through the airport, using the new biometric technology-a combination of facial and iris recognition.
The different touchpoints in the Biometric route allow a hygienic journey without touching, minimizing human involvement and stressing health and safety. Adel Al Redha, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates, said: “We have always focused on delivering a better customer experience at any point of interaction, and it is now more important than ever to make use of technologies and incorporate goods, and to adopt processes that concentrate not just on rapid customer monitoring, but also on health and safety during their trip.” “The state-of-the-art, contactless biometric route is the latest in a series of steps we have launched to ensure that traveling on Emirates is a smooth journey and gives enhanced peace of mind to customers.” The biometric touchpoints are currently built at select check-in desks in Terminal 3 at DXB, Business and Economy Class; immigration gates include a “smart tunnel”; Emirates ‘
The locations where biometric sensors are located will be clearly identified and additional units will be installed in the future at each touchpoint. The Smart Tunnel, a project of the Directorate-General for Residence and Foreign Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) in partnership with Emirates, is a world-first passport control project in which passengers automatically step into a tunnel and are ‘cleared’ without human involvement or the need for a physical passport stamp by immigration authorities. Emirates is also the first airline to obtain U.S. clearance for biometric boarding outside America. Customs Defense of the Frontier (CBP). At the departure gates, clients travelling from Dubai to Emirates destinations in the U.S. will be able to select facial recognition technologies.
The biometric path is the latest in Emirates’ host of initiatives to include a smart, contactless path. For a better airport experience, the airline has launched other services in the past month, including self-check-in and bag drop kiosks at DXB.
